Hello Families,

We had an early start on Monday which we had Social Thinking with Mrs Burton.
We also started our new explorers unit. We hung posters up then went in groups and wrote how explorers did stuff. We started our nonfiction unit where we read nonfiction in groups. We had a new word of the week: “wallop” Then we had to write sentence with the word in it.To wrap the week up we had a spelling test. It as our eighth spelling test.

During Writing we are wrapping up our realistic fiction stories. It was fun.

December 15 - December 23

This week we did:

Monday: We did our explorer packets and social thinking. We had art and Spanish. We also did a writing lesson about showing and not telling and scenes.

Tuesday: On Tuesday we had P.E. in the morning, we worked on scenes for a story we work on together as a class. Also we talked a little about putting ourselves in the authors shoes for reading.

Wednesday: We had the chorus concert for the school. Then math, and a working snack. After that we had P.E. Then we had writing, and we talked about setting, and action in scenes. Then we had reading as our last lesson.

Thursday: We had the instrument concert for the school in the morning. Then we had our last media lesson of 2014! After that we had math and worked on our mapping. Then we did writing and ketchup.

Friday: We had math, then music and spanish. After spanish we had a spelling test, and then we watched a movie called Space Jam. :)

Following Week:

Monday: We had the chorus concert for our parents. Also, we did a pre-assessment on nonfiction. After that we had quiet time where we did WIP, Math challenge work, reading and writing as our choices.

Tuesday: We celebrated Claire’s Half-Bday. Then we had P.E. After that we had a movement break. After that we had a math review to get ready for the test. Then we took the test. Then was social studies. After that, we had a winter party and the sing-along assembly.

#Blog

On Monday, we went to the computer lab to practice coding. We played a game called Scratch, and you also got the chance to build a Christmas tree. At snack, we started Shiloh. We continued to work on our Native American cards. Also, we started our new mentor sentence: "My ears rang with crickets, and my eyes stung from staring too long."

On Tuesday, we had our last P.E. class until we started our dance unit. We worked a little bit more on our Native American cards. The Native American museum is on Friday. The class also wrote some more on the mentor sentence. Mrs. Hartstein read a book to us called Fly Away Home.

On Wednesday, all the forth grade classes went on the stage to practice for our concert in chorus. The concert is on December 17. In P.E. we started our dance unit. We were still working on our mentor sentence. We finished our math unit on width and length, and started multiplying BIGGER NUMBERS.

On Thursday, we got to sleep in because of a late start. We missed some of media. We were struggling to finish our Native American cards and signs. We had to sacrifice writing time to finish the cards and tribe signs! Other than that, we had a slowly-moving day. #slowsnail OMG!!

On Friday, we opened our Native American museum. It was fun :). Our class was so sleepy we hardly handled reading. We had one of the most sleepy music classes in a while. We also had a delicious social snack. After snack, we had a medicine to wake us up. We had a movement brake with Ko Ko Kangaroo! We had spanish, yeah! We had a mentor sentence quiz :l. For our GRAND FINALE, we had an [drum role please] we had a BUCKET-FILLERS assembly!

December 3 - December 7

On Monday we had Art and Spanish and we got our Native American assignments for our 3-D models we are going to make at home, and we also read the book Hey, Little Ant.

On Tuesday we had P.E. and we got a sharing sheet to share mostly whatever we want and we learned about bullying, teasing, and conflicts, and how they can be good or bad in Second Step.

On Wednesday we had Chorus first thing in the morning and we got to start our Native American card writing in Social Studies.

On Thursday we only had Media and had our first shares- Peter V. and Ben C. We also had a math test.

On Friday we had Music and Spanish. We also had a spelling test. On Friday’s we switch around reading and math so we had reading in the morning and math in the afternoon!!!!!

We had a great week!!!!!!!!

Monday

On Monday, we had a field trip to the Peabody Museum. There were 5 groups of kids. Each group got a native american tribe they have to research. The tribes were:

Makah,

Hopi,

Iroquois,

Cherokee,

and Sioux.

We learned a lot at the museum.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, we had PE. We continued working on our Tribes, too. We were given yellow packets to record our research in. The packets had lots of questions in them that you had to answer about your tribe.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, we had a pizza party in our classroom. It was super loud as if a snake was in the room. Everybody was sitting next to there friends. We were aloud to sit anywhere in the classroom and surprisingly, it wasn’t messy.

Thursday

On Thursday, we had media and were given a small piece of paper with an activity on it. We had to figure out the code. In the directions, they told us that D stood for A, and there was the phrase “CODE TALKERS” in the message.

Friday

On Friday, we had music, spanish and there was an assembly. In music we did 2 things we have done before and 1 new thing. In spanish we worked on the months and days of the year. We also had a test in spanish to see how much we knew about the translation. We had a spelling test, too. The assembly was a gathering for Thanksgiving.

November 3 - November 7

This week was great!

On Monday we had art and Spanish. In Spanish we learned a new song about November. We continued learning more about the history of Native Americans. It was a grammar week so we did Tuesdays and Mondays grammar work.

On Tuesday there was no school. We spent the day either relaxing, doing fun stuff or doing homework and running errands.

By Wednesday it was Ben C’s birthday. We did more grammar. We also continued typing up our starred personal narratives. Finally we had time for a game at closing circle! (We also actually had time to have a closing circle!)

Thursday we had media, in media we had a teacher who filled in for Mrs. Smith and read a book called Unbreakable Code about Native Americans. We also had are first indoor recess.

On Friday the drinking fountain started leaking.

Breaking News: On Monday Claire, Kara, and Grace tried to make an Obtuse Equilateral Triangle (which is impossible) and by tried we mean are still trying. We interviewed them. Take a look on what they have to say!

“People say that it’s impossible but we will not give up!” they said. “Has anyone proved us wrong?” They are still trying.

On Monday Mrs. Petersen had her baby!

On Tuesday we went to the computer lab to do a math test called “Amath”. We also had P.E outside. We started to dribble and kick with a soccer ball.

Wednesday we had chorus. We sang “Sarasponda” around. Next we had second step. We learned about different feelings.

On thursday it was Peter C.'s birthday. We also had a science center presentation about bees.

On Friday we had a fire drill. It was also Maxim's birthday and we had social snack.

October 6 - October 10

Dear Parents,

We had a very busy but fun week!

On Monday we had art and Spanish, along with another lesson by Mrs. Burton where our class learned about social secrets. In art we finished our bird project. In Spanish we learned a new song called October. We got our first TFK assigned.

In science on Tuesday we started looking through microscopes at insects body parts. We also started our Buzzing Book talks, where we recommend books to each other. In reading we started Tiger Rising and talking about mental movies.

On Wednesday we got insect materials for the insect fair on 24th of October. In chorus we learned a song from Frozen. It was called in Summer. We also had P.E. Our class did catching, throwing, and lead passes.

On Thursday we continued the microscopes in science. There were tons of cool parts to look at. We also had media, we read a book about Christopher Columbus but from a Native American’s point of view, after that we did a play about Christopher Columbus.

On Friday it was Mrs. Petersen’s last day, we had Spanish and music. In music we wrote and practiced a song on the xylophone. Next week we are going to share our work with the class. At the end of the day we had 30 minutes of extra recess time!

Dear Parents,

This week of school was awesome!

On Monday we had our first lesson with Mrs. Burton. We had our first social thinking lesson. Mrs. Burton talked about expected, and unexpected, and we also learned about flexible thinking.

On Tuesday we had P.E. We learned a game called “Touchdown”. In math we learned about division sentences with remainders. In science we were taught how insects move, and eat.

On Wednesday it was Picture Day. There was an individual picture, and a class photo.

On Thursday we had music. We sang a round. What that is is when one group of people sings a verse then another group starts to sing. In science we learned all the different mouthes that insects have.

On every Friday we watch a video. This week we watched the “Duck Song”. Also in Spanish we all have Spanish names example Pedro-PeterC. and Rosita-Rose but my name is Grace. Everybody made a times of the day flip book. One of them was buenos dais and inside the flap we drew a picture.

Dear Families,

It has been a great first week in fourth grade!

This week we have started our insect unit. We have learned about insects and went out to the OLC to catch some. Then we took notes, sketched, and observed them. The read aloud book is also about insects. It’s called Project Mulberry.

Every week we do a mentor sentence. A mentor sentence a descriptive sentence that we study the whole week. On Mondays we notice all the exciting words like vivid verbs and figurative language. On Tuesday we notice parts of speech and label them. On Wednesday we revise the sentence to make it even better. On Thursday we imitate it by using the same style but in our own words.

Everybody has their own job. We had to apply for two. Some examples of jobs are the message reader, the operator, and our job, the reporter! The zookeeper feeds the our class frogs Kermit and Ms.Piggy. The electrician turns the lights on and off and turns the computers on.

We have Spanish two times a week. Our Spanish teacher comes up with lots of fun games. And we talk in Spanish to partners. And our teacher talks in Spanish to us (but we don’t understand)! We get to slap Spanish words with fly swatters. We have Spanish names that we use in Spanish class. We have a bunch of songs like “iOle Ole!” and “El reloj" on posters on clothes hangers on a hook. It is fun.
